As the popularity of Bury St Edmunds increases, Moreton Hall continues to flourish, with this growth comes the need for more landscape gardening! This is where Genesis Landscapes come in and help to give that little extra something to your garden.

Recently we’ve been building a decking area on the St Edmunds Gate development, Moreton Hall. Our clients house benefits from a larger than average garden as they have a corner plot, however this comes with its challenges. The garden is a very awkward shape and has five manholes to contend with! A conventional oblong shaped decking was simply not going to work. We managed to create a deck that overcame these obstacles through the use of a low level curved decking. Having the deck sit at what will soon be ground level has avoided the garden feeling as if it’s been split into tightly spaced sections. It has allowed the garden to have interest and space whilst maintaining one continual flow from lawn to deck and deck to patio.

Bury St Edmunds garden receives some well tailored landscaping

From rags to riches, this Bury St Edmunds garden receives some much needed landscaping! Our most recent Suffolk clients called us to convert their long rectangular Victorian garden and turn it into something a lot more pleasing to the eye! The first challenge to overcome was to get the levels sorted out and make sure water is resting against the house. This involved a shed load of digging out soil and making up the lows in the garden with the excavated spoil. To overcome water issues we installed acro drains which channelled the water into the drains used for downpipes. To take away from the long rectangular shape of the garden we installed a sweeping decorative gravel path which distracts the eye from being drawn down one direction whilst the gravel adds a fresh texture to the design. To finish we laid a natural sandstone patio. Natural sandstone will always add a nice soft texture and colour element to a landscaped garden. To finish we laid some fresh new turf which completely ‘lifts’ the whole feel to the garden. Once our clients had then reinstated their patio furniture and BBQ this garden was complete!

Adding more space to your drive

We have recently finished a small job converting a tired shrub bed into an extended, yet decorative section of drive. This now allows our client to make nice wide turns into her driveway! Maybe you could buy yourself a bit of extra drive space too by using what you don’t use!

Large garden project completed in Ixworth outside of Bury St Edmunds

We have recently finished transforming a large piece of bought land behind our client’s original garden. This garden in Ixworth, which is just outside of Bury St Edmunds, consisted of uneven levels, old fences, out of control shrubs and masses of weeds! The objective was to incorporate the newly acquired land into the newly landscaped original half of the garden….4ft below! Not only that, but the garden had to be made wheelchair friendly by using softly sloping ramps and wide paths without compromising the overall look and feel of the garden.

If we say so ourselves, this garden has been well and truly revamped! With brand new sandstone patios and paths and 150m2 of new lawn you can hardly recognise this was even once two separate gardens. We also had the pleasure of working alongside a local craftsman who constructed the face of the retaining wall from flint to stay in keeping with the rest of Ixworth’s flint architecture.

Being environmentally friendly with Eco Decking and Eco Fencing

In an industry such as landscape gardening where many of the materials are concrete
and wood it’s not always easy to stay eco friendly. However at Genesis
Landscapes we try to be as mindful as possible when it comes to preserving our
planet, and here’s how….

Some genius people in the world of fencing and decking have worked hard to make good
out of the worlds rubbish; and the result, recycled plastic products. If you’re
thinking that sounds awful I agree, but you have to see it to believe it. Gone
are the days of plastic composite decking where it looked like melted windows
laid as a deck, now are the new days of Eco Decking and Fencing that really do look
like the wood and concrete alternative!

Our Eco Fencing products are environmentally friendly and made from 92% recycled
plastic. Not only that but they are much stronger and lighter than concrete
fencing products, they are low maintenance and have a wood grain finish. Eco
Fencing can be used by itself making modern looking fences from gravel boards
or by using a combination of Eco Fencing fence posts with wooden panels. Both
look great!

As for the Eco Decking or E-Decking as it’s known, we believe this product is in a league of its own. E-Decking
not only looks like wood, it actually feels like wood, and not cheap soft wood
either, more like a high quality hardwood deck. Again, as with Eco Fencing,
this product is made from recycled plastic; E-Decking is 100% recycled! It’s
extremely low maintenance; no preservatives need to be added to the deck, no
paint, no stains, just a good old fashioned pressure wash once a year to keep
it looking at its best. E-Decking comes in four different colours (although large
quantities must be ordered for green, blue and dark brown).

Forget the plastic composite decking you would have seen in the past, Eco Decking and Eco

Caring for your turf

Recently we have been getting requests to turf gardens left right and centre! Ideally the best time to turf is in spring or autumn; however with enough care and water it can equally go down in the summer months. Once the turf is down we recommend you water it day and night, saturating it for the first two weeks, especially in the weather we’ve had recently. To make sure it’s thoroughly watered carefully lift up a corner of the turf and check to see if the ground below is wet. One rule never to be broken once the turf is laid…DO NOT WALK ON IT. If walked on you will get foot prints permanently in the lawn as it will be soft from all the watering. Not only that but, where the down pressure has formed a crater in the ground, it will have pulled the turf away from the adjoining piece, this forms gaps between the grass. If you have a lawn that is hard to reach with a hose we recommend having a sprinkler set up and left on for an hour each end of the day. After approximately two weeks the turf should have established itself. To check this try gently lifting a different corner of turf to see how the roots are doing. If it is difficult to lift don’t force it. This is a good sign as it will indicate the roots are anchoring into the ground. Once this is the case you can ease off the water and only water it in the cool of the evening after a really hot day, and of course if it starts to turn yellow it wasn’t ready for you to stop watering it yet!
